Last week was so busy! We had relatives come to Montana from literally all over the world. Kevin came from Germany, Scott came from Alabama, Danny and Brooke came from Georgia, and Don, Jalane, and Jean came from Washington state. It's been about eight years since Scott, Kevin, and I were all in the same place at the same time. The last time I saw Danny was about five years ago. He and Brooke just got married last year, so this was my first meeting with her. It was good to spend a little time with Jean. Honestly I wanted to spend more time with her, but my circumstances didn't allow for it. It was wonderful to finally meet Don. Jalane has come here on several occasions, but this was the first time that I was able to meet him.
Kevin's flight to the US didn't go very well. Apparently the people herders at the Charles De Gaulle International Airport in Paris are completely worthless and unnecessarily made him late to one of his flights. He ended up staying in Paris overnight. Darn, right? As I recall, this was his third trip to Paris. When he was going to his alternate flight, it was only when Kevin completely ignored their advice that he made it to his plane when he was supposed to. Probably because he spent a share of the time outside, he ended up getting some kind of bug, which he brought to me.
My week was primarily spent in transporting people and in getting a slideshow ready for Grandma's memorial service. Kevin was the first person to arrive, so after I picked him up, we went back to Gardiner and looked at old photos. We continued to look at photos on Monday. When I say that we have boxes of photos in the house, I'm not kidding—we have dozens of boxes.
Kevin was a little under the weather, but he was doing alright.
Tuesday, Scott, Danny, and Brooke arrived in Montana. Scott arrived in Billings in the late afternoon, so I had Kevin drive while I worked on the photos in the car on my laptop. I had also been working on the photos that morning before we left. That evening we ate dinner at Texas Roadhouse. I hadn't eaten there before, but it was a lot like Logan's Steakhouse. :) On the way home, I continued to work on our slideshow as Kevin drove most of the way home. Once we got to Livingston, we dropped Scott off with Dad, and I drove through "the gauntlet" to Gardiner. Danny and his wife arrived in Bozeman that evening and drove to Gardiner and stayed at a hotel. That night Kevin and I played the original Halo until 5:45 am the next morning. Oh wow. What a crazy day!
Danny and Brooke spent Wednesday morning with Kevin and I at my house. I made some French toast and bacon for breakfast and we talked. In the early afternoon we went to Yellowstone National Park, and I showed them around Mammoth Hot Springs. While we were in the park, we saw bison, elk, a coyote, a bald eagle, and mule deer. They got to see all the thermal features in the Lower Terraces: Liberty Cap, Palette Spring, and the Devil's Thumb. We went to the Upper Terraces where they saw Canary Spring among other unnamed features. Living here in this part of the world so long, I've gleaned so much knowledge on the park that anymore when I show people around, I feel like a tour guide! Maybe I should start a business.

When we were finished in the park, we headed to Dad's house in Livingston where Bonnie had prepared a big turkey dinner. Jean had finally arrived in Montana and was able to make it to dinner with Bruce.
After dinner, Scott had to prepare for the memorial service. He's actually a minister, and even married Dad and Bonnie five years ago this month. This was going to be Scott's first memorial service that he would perform, and it was for our grandmother. It was a little hard for him, but I think she would have been honored by it.
Danny, Brooke, Kevin, and I went to Chico Hot Springs for the remainder of the evening. The water was a little warmer than it is on some nights, but that was alright. We talked some more before heading for home/their hotel.
Thursday, January 24 was the big day. I still had some work to do on the slideshow before it was finished. I pretty much worked on that sucker until the last minute getting it ready. Because I was so distracted by the events of the day, Kevin drove for me (Thank you, Kevin!). The memorial service went well. Scott did a great job officiating. At the reception, I finally got to visit with Jalane and Don who had arrived in Montana the previous evening. I think everyone in the family kind of meandered to visit with everyone. I was glad to see Justin at the service, since I hadn't seen him in a few years too.
All the family members who made it to the memorial service are pictured except Bruce. I'm like the shortest brother, so I had to stand on my tip toes. lol |
Friday, Danny and Brooke spent the day in Bozeman and around the Bridger Ski area while I took Scott to the Billings airport. I dropped Kevin off in Livingston so that he could go through some of his belongings being stored at Dad's house, and picked Scott up to take him back home. When I got back to Livingston later that day, Kevin and I went to Bozeman and I finally got to see The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. That evening when we got back to Gardiner, we met Jalane and Don at their hotel room and visited late into the night. In all, I traveled about 500 miles that day, all but 50 I drove myself.
We love each other so much. |

I know—I'm a goof ball. |
These were good times. I was tired and distracted from the multitudes of things going on at the same time, but somehow it all worked out in the end. I'm over that bug now, but Kevin seems to have contracted a new one. I guess he just can't win!
